I am running on Mac and scripts that utilize webcam also freeze on my computer. I have tried downloading the Java developer pack and running the jar command from the command as described above, but it did not work.

Any other ideas on how to resolve the scripts running on Mac?? I love the scripts and would really enjoy trying them w the webcam.

any help would be very much appreciated!!!

Follow up.... I was able to get the system to work.

After downloading the Java Dev Pack, I went to terminal and changed directory, cd, to the directory that has the command in it. Then, in terminal I did the java -jar sexscripts.jar command and it worked.

I installed Catalina beta (the latest macOS version) and the getImage() hang seems to be back. Again, it seems like a permissions issue, but sexscripts/java isn't causing the OS to prompt for camera permission for some reason. There's also a report about it at webcam-capture on GitHub (https://github.com/sarxos/webcam-capture/issues/723). It looks like they were potentially able to solve it by switching drivers.

Catalina is currently in beta, and hasn't been released. Hopefully this will be ironed out before the final release date, but I wanted to give everyone a heads-up that it may be an issue again. If anyone has success with Catalina or can figure out a work-around, please let us all know!

You can try to change the webcam index with
Code:
application.webcam.index=1
(or more than 1) in data.properties.

Unfortunately, that didn't work. Hopefully this will be resolved in the release version. For now I've moved back to Mojave.

Any Catalina users figured this out yet? I'm afraid that if I install it I'll be stuck with a non-working cam again. If anyone has any progress on this issue, please post here. Thanks!

FYI: If any people with software skills and Catalina want to research this, the issue is that sarxos/webcam-capture, which doesn't support Catalina yet. Another project (openimaj) that uses the same library has found a work-around, which can be seen in this thread: https://github.com/openimaj/openimaj/issues/170

I don't have a test system with Catalina yet, so I'm not able to go much further yet. Hope there's someone out there that can take a look.
