Groovy release

doti [ Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:28 pm ]

Groovy, as of 01 01 2013, is embedded using the 1.7.10 release.
The main goal is to make sure that a stable and quite up-to-date version is used, and of course nothing breaks down.

(notice : this forum subject is a very technical one, most writers should simply not care about it)

As i was looking into the things i could do with groovy I needed to see which version ss is using to see what commands would and would not work and i noticed that its 1.7.10. Could any of just download the 2.0.6 jar an throw it in there? Or does it need some more programming done to get it working? Or is there nothing in 2.0.6 that ss uses thats also in 1.7.10?

(I moved the post of 0385 above, to have a full topic about this, sorry for that).
Yes, putting a new release inside the lib folder should work.

I did not found anything very important in very recent releases of Groovy, that's why an old version is still there. I'll look about it in a few day, and report here.

The last release of Groovy is numbered 2.0.6, and the next one, 2.1 will be considered stable soon. Later, Groovy 3 will be available also. See groovy download page.

I think SexScripts will include, in its next release Groovy 2.0.6 or 2.0.7. as I could test (with a dozen of existing scripts) :
- it works well
- it changes nothing in the scripts, everything still works
- it'll be more lightlty delivered (no more "groovy-all"), so SexScripts itself will be smaller

A technical question that remains (for the specialist among you) : groovy-2.0.6.jar, antlr-2.7.7.jar and asm-4.0.jar will be included, in the full release of groovy, do you see some other library that should be included ? (bsf.jar ? jline.jar ? xstream.jar ?) I know there are a very few people on earth that can answer, if any, but who knows.
